For employers: how to run an internship that works for everyone
Employers · Find My Intern
A good internship helps your business and gives the intern a real start. Here is a simple checklist.
Plan it
- Decide on a clear project or set of tasks.
- Choose a supervisor who has time to guide the intern.
- Check whether the role should be paid. The Fair Work Ombudsman has guidance at fairwork.gov.au.
Run it
- Give a proper welcome on day one: introductions, tools and expectations.
- Hold a short weekly check-in.
- Give real, useful work and honest feedback.
Finish well
- Hold a final review and offer to be a referee if it went well.
- If they were great, consider them for future roles.
