Guide · Find My Intern
Employers want to know one thing before they hire you: can you do the job? An internship is one of the quickest ways to show them you can.
1. You learn skills you cannot get from a textbook
Study teaches you the theory. An internship shows you how work actually gets done: meeting deadlines, working in a team, using real tools and taking feedback. These are the skills employers mention again and again in job ads.
2. You get something real to put on your resume
"Helped run a social media campaign that reached a new audience" is far stronger than "good communication skills". An internship gives you real examples to talk about in your resume and interviews.
3. You build contacts
Many roles are filled through people who already know you. The supervisor and team you work with can become referees, mentors, or the people who tell you about your next job.
4. You find out what you actually enjoy
Trying a field for a few weeks or months is a low-risk way to learn whether it suits you, before you commit years to it.
5. It can lead straight to a job
Some employers use internships to find future staff. If you do good work and show you are keen, you put yourself first in line when a role opens up.
How to get the most out of an internship
- Ask questions early and often.
- Keep a simple list of what you worked on and the results. It makes updating your resume easy.
- Ask for feedback before you finish, and ask if your supervisor would be a referee.
- Connect with your team on LinkedIn.
